As part of its landmark closed caption quality initiative, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is examining the quality of closed captions for live news programming in local markets, particularly in smaller markets that use the Electronic Newsroom Technique (ENT) for captions. HLAA, in collaboration with the FCC, the National Association of Broadcasters, consumer groups, is launching a consumer survey to examine the quality of ENT captioning on local news programming.
